Core Workouts
I got my first full week of running in awhile. It wasn’t nearly as much as usual but it was four days of running. That felt nice. I don’t know exactly what went wrong or how I got injured but I keep thinking it may be due to lack of core strength. So, during this down time I’ve been trying to do some exercises. Nothing major….I don’t want to get buff. I’ve been doing 100 pushups and 100 crunches a day plus adding in a couple kettlebell workouts a week. I’ve really been enjoying the kettlebell stuff. The 100/100……not so much.
It’s a different sort of challenge. I’ve never been into lifting weights. I’ve tried a few times here and there but never really fell in love with it. These kettlebells seem different. I’ve really been enjoying the different workouts. They aren’t strictly kettlebells but stretches and aerobic stuff. I found the workouts through Onnit. They had a sale on some 30 minute workouts and that sounded like something I could manage.
The workouts are short and well explained. I literally had no idea how to workout with kettlebells so being able to watch something that is well described and simple is super helpful. I personally think the workouts are fun too. The mix of using the weights and just your body keep it interesting. I’m going to continue to do them in hopes that I gain some strength which can improve my running overall.
As for the runs this week, I did a little over 20 miles total. Alternating days starting with two 4-milers and then two 6-milers. My knee was definitely noticeable on every single run however, it wasn’t that bad. Today it was probably best. I still think there is something going on in there that needs to be checked out so I just need to bite the bullet and go get it checked out. As long as the pain keeps getting better or it is bearable, I plan to keep running.
Until next time…….run a trail, be happy.
