What Are My Workouts
I hired a coach at the beginning of this year to take my running to the next level. As part of that she sets up my training schedule which includes workouts. I had never known anything about workouts specific to running before this. Heck, I barely know how to workout at all. Anyway, I have come to love the workouts. They are a super fun way to mix up the week and keep things interesting. In addition to that they are super challenging.
I used to always see people posting numbers and words and things that made no sense to me. Most of it still doesn’t honestly. However, I will share what I have learned. Most of my workouts are things like a 3x10 workout. At least that is what I call it. Here is what that means. Typically it will start with a 15 minute warm up…just easy running to get the blood flowing. Then I will get into the 3x10 part. It means that I will run hard for 10 minutes three times. In between each hard run I do an easy run for half the time of the hard run. So in this example the easy part would be for 5 minutes. That is followed by a 15 minute cool down.
My workouts started way back as 6x3’s. So I only had to run hard for three minute spurts. That isn’t very tough. My workout today was a 2x20. Twenty straight minutes of hard running…..that isn’t so easy. I think the hardest part is after the 10 minute easy run in between you have another 20 minute hard run coming. Your legs are already feeling the pain of the first spurt but you have to push through that and ramp it back up. It’s tough….but I absolutely love that feeling. Knowing you are about to push through the discomfort and get it done. Especially in 90°F weather. I freaking love running for so many reasons. I doesn’t only make my body stronger but also my mind.
