Grateful
With so many things going on in the world lately, its good to take a step back sometimes and think about how good you have it. Everyone has their issues. No doubt some are worse than others. I consider myself pretty lucky. I often have to remind myself of that.
Today was a good day. I got my plan for most of the year dialed in with Coach Meghan this morning. With all of the races being postponed and the uncertainty of when things will go back to “normal” I am going to put any new races on hold for now. I am eyeing the Marlette 50k in August if things get back to normal by then. I am hopeful.
I had a killer brunch. I am a sucker for Hawaiian food. One of my buddies growing up was Hawaiian and I loved the food his family made. One of my favorites was always Spam and rice. I know….some people probably think that is disgusting. Don’t knock it until you try it. I dolled it up with some sautéed onions and spices. I normally add some eggs but I am trying to conserve some of the eggs I have left in these quarantined times. Anyway, that is seriously one of my favorite meals. I could eat so much of it.
Work was fairly productive today. A lot of trainings going on right now and learning which is nice since things are semi slow. I love learning and getting better. After work I spent some quality time with the family. We had a smorgasbord of leftovers for dinner so we didn’t waste any food. It turned out pretty good. I used some leftover steak and some onion to make some makeshift Philly cheese steaks. They were pretty good. I think I said it in another post at one point but I love cooking. It is another creative outlet for me.
After dinner I chilled with the boys and watched a movie. We decided to watch Big Hero 6. It was a cool movie. Another solid movie from Disney. The little guy is making some solid progress in potty training right now too which is awesome. Putting aside the COVID-19 stuff, things are good. We will continue to do our part to isolate ourselves to flatten the curve and get past this. I encourage everyone else to do the same.
Tonight’s run was an 8 mile easy run. I switched up the route a bit by running around the outside edge of my normal route. Typically I crisscross through streets and get to my miles. Today I just took the outside edge to get there. It is fun to adjust the routes to keep things interesting. I typically just play it by feel.
One thing that I have noticed that I have improved at over the past year is starting out slow and ramping up as I go. When I first started running I would start out fast and slow down the further I got through a run. As I’ve progressed through this journey that has changed. Really in the past 6 months or so really. Now I typically start off slow and pick up the pace each mile as I go. They call that something…..I can’t think of what its called right now. I am really still just a #dumbrunner. Negative splits? Think that is it. Ok, I am going now. I think I am going to watch an ultra movie. There have been a couple floating around on my social media channels during this shelter in place. I am going to search for Unbreakable. Think it’s about Western States.
