It Feels Like Summer
The beach wasn’t completely packed but it was definitley more crowded than I’ve ever seen it this morning. I can only imagine this place when there wasn’t a pandemic going on and the weather was this hot. This place is going to be insanity!
I got my run in early this morning to beat the heat. I think that is my slogan for this summer, “Beat the Heat”. It’s supposed to be mid 90’s today and up to 100+ in the next couple of days. It was already close to 80 when I got out this morning at 9AM. I learned to love the heat last year but I question how much I really love it when these days come around.
Today was a little slower than my typical Monday. My legs were feeling the ride from yesterday for sure. That ride was so damn fun! It’s amazing how much I like it. I need to look into an Xterra event. That sounds amazing.
I was especially on the look out for creatures this morning as I was fully expecting to see at least one snake with this heat. From my limited experience they like to hang out on the hot trails and bask in the sun. To my surprise I didn’t see any. I heard some rustlings in the bushes but didn’t see anything. The noises are almost as scary as actually seeing the damn demons.
I did see a couple of things I hadn’t before. For one, I saw a pretty massive turtle. He was huge! Just chillin on the side of the trail next to a concrete wall. Honestly, it was the least likely spot to see a turtle. I have no idea what he was doing there and I didn’t see him on my way out. I don’t know where he came from and how he got to where he was so fast. The logistics are staggering.
I’ve seen a ton of caterpillars on these trails but none ever interesting enough to take a photo of. Today I saw this extraterestrial looking creature that made me stop and pull out my phone. It was black and red and looked like it came straight out of a Sci-Fi movie. Pretty cool looking if you ask me. I have no idea what it was but it was weird looking. It’s surprising that something that looks as creepy as that doesn’t really freak me out but a snake will stop me in my tracks. Maybe its the knowledge of the danger…..no idea.
Anyway, the run was good overall. It took about 5 of the 8 miles to get warmed up and get the legs loose after the ride yesterday. Tomorrow is a workout run so hopefully the early run today will give the legs enough of a break until tomorrow. We will see how this heat plays a factor as well. I may need to take some water with me on these shorter runs while its super hot. The alternative is going back to nights but I’m not sure I like that idea. Maybe I can wake up super early? Not likely…..I hate getting up early. Stay tuned.
