Uhhhhhh
Yeah, it’s hot. Today’s run was almost pure torture. It made my lungs hurt to breathe. I brought a 16oz bottle of water that was basically boiling by mile 6. It got the job done though. I’m glad I brought it….some small part of my already really small brain questioned if I should even bring water today. Note to self: Alway bring water when it is 90+.
This wasn’t the hottest weather I have run it but it sure felt like it. I am not sure if I didn’t drink enough water during the day or if it had something to do with the humidity but it was a challenge. Only the heat….my body felt fine I could just feel the heat sucking the life out of my body and lungs.
To make things interesting, I was on a single track at the lake when I heard a rattle go crazy in the bush next to me. I didn’t stop to take notes or photos, I just yelped as usual, said some choice words, picked up the pace for about 10 feet or so and kept going. That was the first time I had heard a rattler but not seen it. Kinda scary.
As always on these extra hot days, I was glad the lake was my halfway point. I was able to soak my bandana and wrap it around my head for the trip back. I think this helps to keep me cool. What was interesting is that I didn’t see a single other biker or runner out today. I saw one dude walking but that was all. That should give me a clue. All I can think about when running in this weather is the video of David Goggins running in hot weather where he tells the story of a guy asking why he was out running in the hot weather and Goggins response was, “because you’re not”. It is tough to run in this extremely hot weather but if I can get through the pain of these runs it will help me through challenges in other runs. I just keep pushing. Plus I love the trails and the lake.
