Hurdle or Detour?!?!

Hurdle or Detour?!?!

I was back to my feet workouts today…..aka running. I have to admit it felt a little slow and I didn’t like it at first. In my mind, running is definitely more challenging on the body than riding a bike. With that being said biking has it’s own set of challenges that I have no idea about yet. I will say that for the first couple miles yesterday I wasn’t sure if running would ever feel the same again….it was really weird. Ultimately after that I fell into my normal rhythm and things felt usual again. I felt the same struggles of running that I love to put myself through.

At about mile 2.5 I ran into an all new challenge. A FREAKING RATTLESNAKE!!!! It stopped me dead in my tracks. Thankfully it was completely across the trail in plain sight and fairly easy to see. It’s colors were very similar to the trail. If it was just off to the side in the leaves I am not sure I would have seen it. Even worse if it was coiled up and smaller, who knows. Anyway, I thought of different ways to get around it or make it move but eventually decided it wasn’t worth it and turned around and chose another route.

I did go back down the trail again later in the run to see if it was still there and didn’t see it but I didn’t go too close just in case it was just off trail. Again, I didn’t want any surprises. Now I am a little concerned with running through the trails but realize that that is their home. I will definitely be keeping my eyes more open as I run through these spaces.

I finished up my 8 mile easy run by exploring for some trails in places I hadn’t been before with no luck. I then turned it to the streets to get some more miles in. It was fun to find a route that would get me where I needed to be but I got the run done. I felt good considering I have done some sort of workout everyday for the past couple of weeks…..either running or mountain biking. I see more of this in my future.
