I Missed the North
Man I missed it up there. My training has me doing some longer runs now so I can get a bit further north. I even cut off one of my favorite parts of my trail today to go even further. I am happy I did. I seriously missed those parts of the trail. Those are the parts that made me fall in love with this place. Once you get past a certain point out there….basically where I had been turning around lately….you don’t see much of anyone unless they are running pretty far. There is a stretch of probably 7 to 10 miles that you may see one other person.
What’s also great is the climbing. The further north you go the more climbing you get. The trails on the lake are unique….I think. In the Bay it was a steep climb then a long decent. Out here it is constant ups and downs. Those ups and downs add up but there aren’t many super long and steady climbs. Up further north, in the Auburn area, I know there are some bigger climbs similar to the Bay. Anyway, I like the up and downs. It keeps things interesting.
I felt pretty good this run. I didn’t get a good nights sleep so it took awhile to get things going. Probably about 8 miles in I started to loosen up and get it going. I started to hit a wall around mile 22 but it wasn’t so bad. I have been struggling a bit lately because I don’t have my normal nutrition. I’ve been living off of Lara Cherry Pie bars. Today I even took a couple packs of my kids fruit snacks…they weren’t that good. Anyway, it was a fun day topped off with some neighborhood fireworks. I love this new neighborhood.
