Trail Work
Today I decided to start writing on this site daily. A daily blog…..2010 style. I am only 10 years late but I’m excited. I have to start somewhere.
There is nothing like getting out on the trails on a winter weekday. Days are short. Work is long. It’s tough. Today the stars aligned and I was able to get out for a workout on the local trail on Folsom Lake.
I love it out there. It is so beautiful. Check out this trail!
I’m 5 weeks away from my first marathon and my training is at an all time high. I hired a coach just before the start of the year and she has really ramped me up quickly. I went from 20-30 miles a week to 57 miles last week. That is a huge jump in a little over a month. I feel good though.
Today’s training was a workout run. 15 Minute warm up followed by (3) 12 minute spurts at lactate threshold with 6 minutes easy in between. The workout ends with a 15 minute cool down. Here is what it looked like:
The warmup was tough and I was nervous about picking up the pace. Once I got going though I felt good. During both 6 minute slow downs I didn’t think I was going to be able to pick it back up but I was wrong…..I felt really good today.
I took a quick detour on the cool down to a short off shoot I always pass. Today I decided to explore. Here is the view I found:
I’ll be back down that little part again. Overall it was a great run today. Good weather, the body felt good and I felt fast. The training is paying off. I love this stuff!
