How To Do What You Love?
I think this is a difficult question for most people on this planet. We grow up with these dreams about what we want to be when we get older then life happens. You get a part time job to earn some extra money. Then you move out and get a little higher paying job. Maybe you go to college and get a degree in something you will never use. Eventually most people fall into a job that pays the bills but they have so much responsibility that they get stuck. Kids, food, mortgage, cars…..all of it adds up and these things are expensive .
Do you take a step back, get rid of some of the responsibilities and go for what you want? Do you start a side gig and spend early mornings and late nights building that until you can do it full time? When is the right time to make the jump? These are all tough questions that have many variations of answers. There probably is no clear cut correct answer. I don’t know….I ask myself these things a lot.
I have to say, I have a pretty sweet gig. I like what I do for a living and it pays me a solid wage. However, I don’t love it. I don’t wake up everyday excited to go to work. It’s hard to know how to make a living doing what you love though. Most things that people like to do aren’t known for making a great living. At least the things I like to do aren’t. I love running, mountain biking, photography and videography. Maybe eventually I will figure out a solid way to marry those things into a lucrative career. Until then I will keep dreaming, brainstorming and writing.
