Taking It To The Streets
I was debating if I was even going to run tonight based on how my body was feeling over the past week. Especially my heel on my right foot. However, today it felt pretty good and I needed a run so I went for it.
For some reason I decided I wanted to go for a run on the streets. This is far from the norm. I typically don’t ever want to run on the street. It was a good time. I decided to run towards the first city I moved to when we came up this way. I made it all the way there and then turned around and came back. There is a decent hill to climb on the way so I got some climbing in also.
It’s amazing how much faster you can run on the street vs the trails. When you run on a hard surface in a straight line it is so much faster than winding through a trail that goes up and down also. It’s just a different kind of run. I did notice how much better my stamina has gotten after all this trail running. I was able to hold a solid pace while keeping my heart rate low.
I was able to finish my 8 mile run in under an hour. My overall pace was 7:21/mile. That may be the fastest I’ve ever run that far. It makes me wonder if I could hold that pace for a half marathon on the streets or possibly even go faster. I didn’t feel like I was going that hard. Towards the end I started to feel it a bit but it wasn’t that bad.
My heel feels great. To be honest I don’t even feel any pain at the moment which is pretty amazing. However, now my left calf is feeling a bit of pain. I don’t think its a big deal. Tomorrow is a planned workout run so we will see how that goes. I’m going to take it day by day.
