Struggling Through The Heat
Back to nights lately for a couple reasons. One, timing has been tough with kids, work, dinner and bed times. Two, its hot…..really, really hot. Triple digit hot everyday. I’ve talked about this a lot but it is taking some getting used to.
I grew up in the Bay Area where the weather is always “perfect”. Rarely too hot and rarely too cold. It’s always mellow….60-70 degrees. For me, the perfect temp was always 55-65 degrees. That is prime weather for me. Over the past year of living up north I’ve had to get used to the heat. It doesn’t bother me much anymore just walking around or hanging out. I’m thankful that we have a really nice air conditioning system and lots of fans. However the heat isn’t so bad.
Where I have been struggling is running in the heat. Something about it just sucks the life and speed out of me. I like training in it because I like the struggle but its just wierd how I feel like I am running at a good pace but I’m not as fast as usual. Conversly, when it’s cold I feel like I am running normal and it ends up being a super fast pace. I was talking to my coach about it this morning and she said there was some studies showing how people get slower after every degree over 60°F…..or something like that. I need to look it up because it sounds super interesting.
