Happy Earth Day
Day 2 post rattler….I’m happy to report no snake sightings today. However, during my run it did occur to me that me 2 year old brought us a snake into the house about a week ago. I then realized it is likely now snake season. This may only be the beginning? I have no idea but I am a little freaked out still. As long as the rattlers stay away I think I am fine. Who am I kidding, I don’t like snakes.
In the spirit of Earth Day I will let that go for now. It was a hot one today. It’s nice to run in some heat. I think I’ve said it here before but I used to hate running in the heat. I don’t mind it so much anymore. I actually like it a bit. I did get a new hydration pack that I tried out today. I did some research on a waist pack with water and ultimately got the CamelBak Delaney. For one it is simple and looked like it was something I could use. Second of all I have some CamelBak 24oz water bottles I used on my road bike that I thought would fit in this….they do. Lastly, the price was right. I got a pretty horrible color for less than $30. I honestly don’t care what it looks like. Sometimes the worse it looks the better. That way I know what is mine.
First impressions…..I like it. When I did my 18 mile long run last Saturday I ran with one of those water bottles in my hand the entire time. My thoughts are that I could ultimately carry 48 oz of water on a run….hell, I could carry 72 oz but that may get hard to transfer. Anyway, 48 oz vs what my vest carries which is about 36 oz. I could also get creative and wear my vest plus the belt. Moral of the story is I have plenty of options now. The goal of the waist pack was for something that I could use while running without a shirt during this summer. So far so good.
Today was another 8 miler. I was able to get out just before 5PM to get my run in. I felt pretty good from the start. Early on I decided I was going to take it easy this entire run. Normally I try and push at certain parts but not today. I actively tried to listen to the birds and my footsteps. I was really nice. The next time you are out on a trail just take a moment to listen to the sounds around you, its beautiful.
I took a little path down to the beach once I got to the lake today. I had never been down there before. It was pretty….really pretty. I would like to bring the littles there eventually. It was a bit unnerving hearing all of the bees in the trees behind me but it was better than the sound of a rattle. Just sayin…..I can’ get that out of my mind.
