My style of laps!
It’s leap day. Exciting. Shout out to all of the people born on February 29th. You will be forever youthful.
Had some baseball practice with the boy this morning. Psyched we got to be the Giants. After practice we went out for a Mexican lunch on my request. I like burritos as fuel for long runs. Lots of carbs and protein. Bean, rice, cheese and chicken today……delicious.
Today’s run was a scheduled 20 mile long run. My last real long run before my race in a couple weeks. I decided I was going to stay close to where I normally start for two reasons.
Reason 1: I knew my normal 6 mile loop had about 750 feet of elevation gain. If I did that loop 3 times I would be over 2,000 feet at 18 miles which is about what I normally get on my 20+ mile run on the lake.
Reason 2: I knew I would have some mental games of passing the “finish line” multiple times while having to push to take another lap.
It worked out awesome. I felt good. The last lap was tough and then the last two miles were a little rough but I’ve had way worse. I felt solid and like I could have gone more. It was also great because I ended up with about 2,600 feet of elevation….not bad.
Kudos to Mother Nature for the beautiful day. I had some nice cloud cover and a slight breeze to keep me cool. The temp was good enough to go shirtless and just wear my vest with my water. Here are some images from the day.
