Pushing
I didn’t feel like I was in tip top condition for todays run. My legs and knee were a little sore and I had questions early on if I could complete the run. In the back of my mind, while all the doubts were going through it, I knew I would finish. I couldn’t quit. 22 Miles. I can’t quit on only 22 miles. It wasn’t easy along the way but I made it.
My times continue to confuse me. It took me about 8 miles for things to click and for me to feel like I was finally in a flow. However, the data shows something weird around mile 15. When I was out there, this is the point in which I felt like I hit a wall and was struggling a bit. Funny enough, this is were I picked up the pace and finished those last 7 miles strong. Maybe that’s why I felt slow…..because I was pushing.
I think that my body hit a barrier at 15 but my mind pushed through and told me to keep going…..and go stronger. There is something comforting about knowing that your miles left is in the single digits. Once there is less than 10 it just feels achievable. At least it feels that way for me. Here are a few photos of the day.
My continuous streak of running out of water on my long runs continued. I tried really hard to conserve today. I normally start drinking small sips every half mile starting at about mile 3. My first 750ml bottle of water lasted until mile 15.5 today…..that’s good. However, I ran out at around mile 20.5ish. Not a huge deal. I knew I could make it back from there but it’s interesting that I can only make it between 18-20 miles with my water. I also learned that I start drinking a lot more the further I go. It’s good info to take into consideration when I do the 40 mile idea run. I bet I will need a refill around 30 to get me through. I can’t wait to do that run. Ok, see you later.
