I feel like I went from 0-60 in 1.8 seconds. After taking a week off due to some travel I quickly got back on track. Over the past 7 days I’ve run 65+ miles…..its peak training time right now. With my race just 4 weeks away I have to get some serious mileage in.

There were two real challenges this week. Work and heat. I have been so busy at work that I haven’t been able to get out in the afternoon for my usual trail runs. Also, it’s been so dang hot…..100°F+ almost every day. These two things have forced me to start my runs at night and finish super late with the mileage I’m doing. Multiple runs this week finished just at or past midnight. That doesn’t allow for much sleep.

Last night capped it off. I played an ice hockey game then ran my 15 mile long run about an hour after I finished playing. My legs felt that one for about the first 5 miles until they either just lost all feeling or I forgot about it……I don’t know. The good thing about running that late is its a little cooler. By a little cooler, I mean 85-90°F. That little difference makes a huge difference though. Especially when the sun isn’t beating down on you.

I hope to get back on the trails this next week. The weather forecast says its going to remain super hot but I kinda like running in the heat. I like the challenge. I just have to remember to bring water when it’s over 94°F. I’m not sure why that is the number, I just put that in my head last year and I’ve stuck with it. More summer heat to come and I’m excited. Run a trail…..be happy.
